Fargone owner Nate and his brother-in-law Craig had an epic opening weekend. Nate breaks down his unexpected 24 hour hunt in search of mule deer.
We’d been watching this area and scouting these bucks for about a month, so we had a pretty good idea of what was around and where we wanted to be when opening day finally came.
We got up there the night before, got everything ready, and headed out before first light. We got into position and started watching as the sun came up.
Soon enough, the bucks started coming into view. We spotted the first one at around 500 yards. We’d been watching these deer for a while, so when the opportunity presented itself, Craig took the shot and got the first muley down.
After getting the first deer, we figured we might as well keep moving and see what else we could find.
So we started hiking around and seeing if we could turn up another buck. About an hour later, we came across another one.
This one was completely different. Instead of being 500 yards away, he was sitting at about 50 yards. We got into position, made it happen, and I was able to get the second one down.
So within a couple of hours, we had two deer on the ground.
After spending the last month scouting and waiting for opening day, it all came together pretty quickly. We got everything packed up, started making our way home, and somehow we were back within 24 hours of leaving.
Two bucks, one opening day, and one pretty unforgettable 24 hours.
